Universeum, Gothenburg: Visitor Information and Tickets

A woman and child joyfully walk hand in hand on a rope bridge in a lush indoor greenhouse with rocky walls and vibrant green plants.

Universeum is Gothenburg’s hands-on science center, built as a vertical journey from a rainforest to sharks, space, and interactive labs.Plan for crowds and timed entry on popular days, and treat the dome show (Wisdome) as a separate booking decision.

Universeum tickets

Buy online and book an entry time if you want predictable entry, especially on weekends, school holidays, and rainy afternoons. Universeum caps capacity, so certain entry times or even entire days can sell out.

If you show up without a ticket, you can sometimes buy at the door, but you pay a surcharge (SEK 30) and you still depend on availability. Use door purchase as a backup, not a plan.

If you want to see a dome show, treat it as a second decision. Wisdome requires its own ticket in addition to admission or an annual pass, and Universeum restricts food and drink in the dome.

Opening hours and best time to visit

Universeum’s regular pattern is simple: it opens daily 10:00 to 18:00. That said, it can publish exception days and short closures for maintenance or changes, so check the official opening-hours page before you lock in your day.

For quieter galleries, arrive close to opening, or plan the last two hours of the day when some families have already left. If you want a Wisdome show, pick your showtime first, then build the rest of your route around it.

How to get there

Universeum sits at Korsvägen, next to Liseberg. From Gothenburg Central Station, you can walk in roughly 20 minutes, heading southeast toward Korsvägen and the Gothia Towers complex, then following signage for Universeum.

Public transport is the easiest option in peak periods. Take a tram or bus to Korsvägen, then walk a few minutes to the entrance. Plan routes on the Västtrafik trip planner.

If you drive, expect disruption around Korsvägen due to ongoing construction projects. Parking right by the building is limited. Universeum points visitors to nearby facilities such as Liseberg Västra (Södra Vägen 70), Focushuset (Fabriksgatan 45), and Liseberg Östra (Nellickevägen).

The visitor experience and highlights

Universeum works best if you treat it like a top-to-bottom route, not a set of isolated rooms. The official house map suggests starting at the big elevator.

  • Start at level 7 for Wisdome (if you booked a show), then move into the Wilderness.

  • Continue down through the Ocean Zone and Aquarium Hall, then detour into the Reptilarium.

  • Enter the Rainforest and follow the route down toward level 2.

  • Pause on level 2 for food if you need it, then take the elevator back to level 5 for Vislab.

  • Work down through Mathrix and Space (level 4), then Chemistry Lab and Humans (level 3).

  • Finish with Miniverseum (level 0) if you are visiting with young kids.

The trade-off: you can do everything, but it is a long indoor loop with lots of sensory input. If you are short on time, skip Vislab and give that time to the Aquarium Hall and Rainforest, which are the areas most visitors remember.

If you want another indoor attraction nearby for a second day, consider Aeroseum, Gothenburg.

Planning your time

Universeum’s own guidance is a useful baseline: plan at least 3 hours for the full house, and add just under 1 hour if you also want a Wisdome show.

  • Fast visit (1.5 to 2 hours): pick two anchors (Rainforest plus Aquarium Hall), skip most labs.

  • Standard visit (3 hours): follow the suggested house route without rushing, with one café stop.

  • Deep visit (4 to 5 hours): add labs, reading time, and a Wisdome show, plus a full meal break.

If you want to stay near Korsvägen for easy access, these local stays are worth scanning: Upper House, Jacy’z Hotel & Resort, and (if available) Hotel Pigalle.

Accessibility and constraints

Most of Universeum is accessible with a wheelchair or other assistive device, and accessible toilets are available on all floors. Universeum flags a few pinch points: narrow passages in the Aquarium Hall, the Reptilarium, and the Chemistry Lab.

Rainforest access needs planning if you use a wheelchair. Universeum recommends following the regular route through the house but using an adapted route through the Rainforest, with specific airlocks and elevator moves.

Escorts (companions for visitors who need assistance) get free admission, collected at the information desk on floor 1, and they do not need to pre-book an entry time. For Wisdome, escorts generally need a ticket unless they are assisting a wheelchair user.

This is not ideal for visitors who rely on a large stroller throughout the day. Universeum recommends exploring without a stroller, and it does not allow strollers in the Rainforest or the Chemistry Lab.

Rules and security

Universeum runs a straightforward, family-focused set of rules:

  • Cashless venue: pay by card.

  • Storage: free lockers with code locks exist on levels 0 and 1, but capacity is limited.

  • Cloakrooms: unattended coat areas exist, so do not leave valuables.

  • Dogs: not allowed, except trained and marked guide dogs and assistance dogs.

  • Wisdome: no food or drink inside.

  • Food: you can bring a packed lunch and eat in designated seating areas.

Costs and site spending

Ticket prices vary by day due to demand, but these are common online entry points for standard admission:

  • Adult admission: about EUR 27 (SEK 285)

  • Child admission (3 to 16): about EUR 21 (SEK 225)

  • Student admission: about EUR 24 (SEK 250)

On-door purchases cost the online price plus about EUR 3 (SEK 30).

Annual passes can make sense if you plan repeat visits:

  • Annual pass adult: about EUR 56 (SEK 595)

  • Annual pass child (3 to 16): about EUR 42 (SEK 445)

Wisdome tickets are priced separately. Many shows list tickets from about EUR 8 (SEK 80), and you add this to admission.

On site, budget extra for café and restaurant food, plus shop spending. Universeum operates a restaurant, a café, and a shop inside the building.

Practical tips for your visit

  • Book your Wisdome show first, then choose your entry time around it.

  • Arrive at opening if you want calm galleries in the Aquarium Hall and Rainforest.

  • Use Korsvägen trams and buses on busy event days at Scandinavium and Svenska Mässan.

  • Bring a light layer for the Rainforest humidity, then switch back for cooler aquarium spaces.

  • Leave the stroller on level 1 and use a carrier for the Rainforest and Chemistry Lab.

  • Pack a small lunch if you want to control timing and costs.
